How to Host the Best New Year’s Eve Party

The Christmas season has come to an end and 2018 is right around the corner. If you have no plans to ring in the new year yet, why not throw your own party? Throwing a New Year’s Eve party at home is the best way to celebrate with close friends and family. And if you are on a budget, it is a great way to save some money instead of spending the big bucks on New Year’s Eve parties at restaurants and bars. Here are some tips on throwing the best New Year’s Eve party of 2017.

Gather some fun lighting to hang throughout the house. A variety of lights can set the mood such as fairy lights or fun disco ball garland. You can even just use your Christmas lights!

The worst part of a party is the cleanup after, so make sure to gather as many items as you can that can be thrown away. Disposable table cloths, fun New Year’s plates, cups and plastic silverware can all be tossed in the trash. You can even find plastic champagne glasses so that your nice glassware doesn’t get ruined. Also, what is a New Year’s Eve party without some confetti? Confetti looks great placed on table cloths, because it really makes it pop. All of these items can be found at your local Party City or even on Amazon.

Want to make sure your guests have a great spot for photos? Make a DIY photo booth! All you need is to hang a big table cloth, sheet, or paper on the wall. For accents you can get some ribbons or streamers to hang down the booth. For an extra touch, you can even add fun lighting or balloons that say, “Happy New Year” or “Cheers”. Lastly, don’t forget about some party poppers to ring in the New Year come midnight!

Food & Drink

There are many ways to go about food and drink, depending on your budget. The easiest way is to get your food catered so that you aren’t stressed about the food. Or, you can ask your friends and family to all bring an appetizer or dessert to share. Guests typically like to snack on appetizers throughout the night instead of a full plate of food. You can also ask your guests to bring their own drinks, while you supply the champagne toast at midnight.

Music & Television

Make sure you have a TV set up somewhere in your home with the New Year’s Eve specials on, and so that guests can watch the ball drop at midnight. Music can also set the entire mood of your party. Whether you are wanting to play cocktail music or pop, make sure you have a speaker playing with a variety of songs throughout the night.

Keep Your Guests Comfortable

The food, drinks, music, and decorations are all important. However, guests want to be comfortable. This means making sure your home’s temperature is at a comfortable level for guests. Double check that your home’s heating and cooling system is working. An ideal temperature in home’s that are planning on using their furnace is 68-72 degrees. If you are in the warmer states and using your air conditioner, an ideal temperature is 70-74 degree. This can vary if you have a lot of people in one room, so make sure to ask guests if they are comfortable with the temperature in the room throughout the night.

Have a Good Time & Keep Guests Safe

Hosting your own party can seem like a lot of work, but remember to relax and have a good time too. Don’t stress about every detail and enjoy ringing in the new year with your friends and family. Lastly, if you are worried about guests driving home after, let them know they are welcome to stay the night. This ensures safety for everyone and a good start to the new year.
