What You Need to Know About Peel-Off Charcoal Masks

Peel-off charcoal face masks are a major new beauty trend for getting clearer, smoother skin. Most people think of charcoal as something you use to get the grill going, but it’s actually very good for the skin. Though it has various other uses, when used on the skin, charcoal can help remove impurities and dead skin. In peel-off masks, this is especially true as it clings to everything on your face, removing everything right down to your peach fuzz when you take it off.

Application and Removal

If you are trying to remove clogs from your pores and clean out blackheads, it’s important to start by opening the pores. An easy way to do this is by dipping a cloth in hot water, then placing it on your face for a few minutes. The heat causes your pores to open, which will make it much easier for the mask to extract the dirt, dead skin cells, etc. from them. Next, dry your face with a clean towel. Then spread the mask over your face evenly, being sure the layer is not too thick that it becomes impossible to remove and wastes the mask and not too thin that it doesn’t peel well. Be sure to avoid areas like the eyes, eyebrows, hairline, lips, etc. Avoiding these areas is extremely important. Unlike many other masks, these are designed to peel off anything and everything they touch. If you get too close to the hairline, your eyebrows, the thin and sensitive skin of your lips, etc., you could do major damage. Wait about 20 minutes until the mask dries and your face’s skin feels tight before removing from the bottom up and toward the center of your face. Use one hand to peel the mask while the other keeps the skin tightened to avoid damage. Many people then choose to moisturize after this process as it can be very drying.

Minimizing Pain

As mentioned before, these masks are made to peel off everything they touch. This can mean anything from surface dirt to an entire layer of skin depending on the brand, which can hurt a great deal. To minimize pain, avoid the hairline, eyebrows, eyes, mouth, and any other sensitive areas. Many people often choose to simply use it on their T-zone, the oiliest and often most clogged area, to avoid pain. Shaving off peace fuzz and/or exfoliating before applying the mask are also typical ways to reduce pain as these can reduce what your mask needs to remove and cling to. Also, make sure to keep skin taut while removing the mask.

As this post has made clear, these masks can be drastic and painful, so why use them? They produce great results. Partially because they remove peace fuzz, they leave skin incredibly soft. They also work to reduce the size of pores and tighten skin. Their most important results come from their ability to remove dirt, dead skin, and clogs. These masks are incredible skin cleansers. They remove difficult blackheads that other products can’t and even get rid of left over dead skin, including both the small cells that clog pores and larger pieces from areas like healed scars and sunburns.
