Zebras Took Over The French Open
With the French Open coming to a close — the women’s final is Saturday and the men’s final is Sunday — I thought it would be a good idea to look back at some of the best outfits from the 2016 tournament. Wimbledon is the next major on deck, which is notoriously known for all white outfits, making it even more crucial to review some of the fun outfits!
Players sponsored by Adidas all look very similar this year. And they were hard to miss! Zebras use their stripes to hide in the wild, but players in the zebra wear at the French Open are doing the opposite. Here are a few of the zebra wearers this year.
Ivanovic’s outfit is very loud and proud in the front and the back is a little more mellow with a black back and a pop of color with a softer red-orange stripe down the back. She also had a matching zebra visor and shoes with a similar pattern to tie the outfit all together.
Tsonga isn’t one to shy away from loud outfits. He was big on the neon movement that a lot of sports teams and individual players tapped into for uniforms so it wasn’t a surprise to see him in this loud outfit.
Halep was also in on the zebra apparel. Last year, she played with bring colors for her outfit, but this year she went a little more bold.
The men were not shy when it came to color this year! Blue was the it color of the Grand Slam.
Nadal kept his out pretty simple — not uncommon for him — but his color selection was on point. The different shades of blue played off each other nicely. The colors also paired nicely with the white shorts, but white really isn’t the best for the clay courts in my opinion…
I couldn’t talk about outfits and not share this one. I have nothing positive to say about this one though. I was really happy to see Tsonga beat him so we didn’t have to look at this anymore…Maybe he should contact Ed Hardy?
New Balance did a nice job incorporating different shades of blue for Raonic’s outfit, allowing him to stand out a little more. Again with the white shorts though.
In recent years there has been too much of an emphasis on what the women are wearing at the Grand Slam tournaments so I am going to keep this short and sweet for them.
Gavrilova lost in the first round of the tournament, but her outfit didn’t disappoint. She chose a beautiful teal color and it’s unfortunate that we didn’t get to see more of it.
Muguruza used a variety of colors that all worked very well together. The skirt is a great yellow base for the colors in her top to build on.
You can’t talk about a Grand Slam and not mention at least one of the Williams’ sisters. Venus has the better outfit fo the two this year.
