Nominees for Oscars 2016 Revealed

This morning, the nominees for the Oscars 2016 were revealed. There were quite a few surprises among the nominations, but several films were prevelent. Films like The Big Short and Mad Max: Fury Road received multiple Oscar nods, including Best Motion Picture and Best Film Editing. Both films’ directors also received a nod for Best Director.

The films that recevied Oscar nominations were big box office wins this past year, including Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Spotlight, The Martian, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Pixar’s Inside Out. Some surprises were Oscar nominations like Anomalisa as Best Animated Feature Film. There’s always a film thrown in the bunch that has little publicity and is not well-known, and sometimes, these films take home the Oscar. But if you know anything about Anomalisa, it’s a strangly-adapted stop-motion adult animated romantic drama film–and its concept is odd. Haven’t heard of it? Well not too many people have. I’m predicting Inside Out takes home the Oscar for this catagory (at least let’s home so).

In addition to all these Oscar nods, Leonardo DiCaprio has received his fifth Oscar nomination. Unfortunately, his history of Oscar nominations hasn’t gotten him a win yet, which if you’ve seen Leo’s films, you’d know that’s arbitrary. Maybe this year’s the year Leo wins that Oscar once and for all (because let’s face it: he definitely deserves one by now). He’s up for Best Actor in his most recent film, The Revenant, which tells the story of a fur tradesman who must fight to survive after being mauled by a bear and left for dead by his own hunting team. Hopefully this year is Leo’s year.
