Caitlyn Jenner Makes Her Debut

Meet Caitlyn. She’s a celebrated Olympic athlete and a Hollywood craze. You may recognize her as a star on E! Network’s Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Formerly known as Bruce Jenner, today she unveiled her new identity—as a woman—on the cover of Vanity Fair.

It was speculated for a few days that Jenner would appear on the pop culture fashion mag as a woman, and today, we finally meet “her.” On the cover, she is dressed in a white satin corset, her brown hair curled for the first time, and a bold title across the page, “Call me Caitlyn.”

Since the cover dropped earlier today, Jenner created a new Twitter as Cailtyn, tweeting the cover along with, “I’m so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can’t wait for you to get to know her/me.”

Jenner has been transitrs_560x415-150601094921-1024-3bruce-jenner-caitlyn-vanity-fair_copyioning from male to female for several months now and in an interview with Diane Sawyer on 20/20 on April 24, 2015, Jenner stated that she has dealt with gender dysphoria since a child. Gender dysphoria, or being transgender, is a dissatisfaction with one’s physical gender. For example, a naturally-born male may feel like a female, or vice versa.

As she was making her transition, Jenner also sat down with her children for a two-part special of the family’s show, titled, Keeping Up with the Kardashians: About Bruce. The family discussed the transition and answered questions in preparation for speaking out about Jenner’s transition. Her family has been supportive throughout the process, thankful that she is truly becoming herself, and though Jenner and Kris Kardashian have divorced, the split was amicable and Kris has supported her ex-husband through this difficult transition.

Jenner told Vanity Fair, “If I was lying on my deathbed and I had kept this secret and never ever did anything about it, I would be lying there saying, ‘You just blew your entire life.’”

The July issue of Vanity Fair hits shelves on June 9, where we can finally read about Caitlyn and her newfound freedom.
