Maroon 5 are The New Wedding Crashers in “Sugar” Music Video

For their latest single “Sugar,” Maroon 5 decided to invite themselves to weddings around LA, playing impromptu shows for the very surprised and star struck brides and grooms. Maroon 5 partnered with Adam Levine’s old friend and director of the 2005 Wedding Crashers film, David Dobkin to film the video.

“We’re gonna drive across L.A. and hit every wedding we possibly can,” Levine says at the beginning of the video, which was filmed on December 16th, 2014. “It’s gonna be awesome.”

At each wedding, a crew busts in without explanation and begins setting up a stage of sorts, covering it with a large white sheet. Maroon 5 inconspicuously sneaks into the venue and are revealed mid performance when the sheet is ripped down.

Each couples’ overwhelming surprise and excitement is apparent after each reveal. Maroon 5 plays and encourages the guests to jump on the dancefloor. The clips are heartwarming and hilarious and Maroon 5 looks like they’re having the time of their lives.

In a press release post shoot, Levine says, “It was an out of body experience, I had no idea I would be affected by the overwhelming reactions we received from the couples and guests. Being able to create an unforgettable experience for several people was the highlight of it all.”

There was some speculation that the crashing wasn’t as spontaneous as the film suggests, but Adam Levine clears rumors in his interview with Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Fraizer, “It was difficult to arrange all of it” Levine says, “It was a lot of fun. It felt good to kind of surprise these people and make them happy. Happy that they liked our band too. It would have been a total disaster [if not].”

The video will officially be released on VH1’s Top 20 Countdown on January 17th at 9 a.m. “Sugar” is the third single off of Maroon 5’s fifth LP V, released in 2014.
