Nicki Minaj on American Idol

Plenty of you have probably heard about the Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey conflicts on the new season of American Idol. Apparently they got into a fiery battle during auditions and Minaj cursed out Carey. Apparently Carey called Minaj the B-word and Minaj threatened to knock her lights out. Who knows.

Minaj is usually seen as the fiery, outgoing oddball and Carey is usually seen as the classic, diva sweetheart. That’s my opinion, anyway. For both girls, people seem to either love them or hate them. I would say I am indifferent, I’ve purchased songs by both artists on iTunes and other than that I don’t really pay much attention to them. I think Nicki’s outfits are interesting to view on the web from time to time and she’s the only person I have seen pull off all hair colors. I’m not a die-hard “Team (insert celeb here)” type of person.

Ryan Seacrest, the AI host, thinks it’s great. Of course he does. To be honest, I’m a little intrigued, myself. I don’t know how everyone else feels, but American Idol has gotten pretty boring for me. It’s the same thing every year no matter who the judges are. The winners (and contestants) seem to drop off the face of the Earth after a couple months. Truthfully, I usually just watch the auditions and then quit watching. Sometimes I peek at the finals. Does anyone else have the same “watch gap” in between that I do?

Anyway, people seem to love drama (admittedly, I enjoy a battle here and there), so maybe it will do the show some good. The judges have always disagreed at certain points, but some catfights could be interesting. And, let’s face it, Minaj is so kooky it might be interesting to see what comes out of her mouth.

So, in sum, I definitely will be tuning in for the auditions. If the rest of the episodes/the Minaj & Carey spat happen to be interesting, I might become a regular viewer. Who knows.
